After months of hype and speculation, Nintendo’s conference last night has revealed the details behind the Switch (cue fingersnap). The console has a solid release date 3/3/2017 . Lets take a quick look on what was revealed.
The Switch will be retailing for $300 and has 2 product SKUs. Fortunately, the only difference between the two consoles is the color of the JoyCon Controllers. Good on you for that choice Nintendo. For the mobile gaming half of the switch, the battery lasts between 2.5 -6 hours depending on the game. As for multiplayer, the tablet supports wi-fi and can connect up to 7 other tablets locally or online for co-op/vs modes.
Now for the not so good. Controller costs.
JoyCon controller =$50
JoyCon controller set =$80
Joy Con charge grip= $30
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller = $70
And then there is the cost for a second dock
Nintendo Switch dock set = $90
and it’s not Nintendo without a plastic wheel
JoyCon Wheel set =$15
Nintendo is banking on those accessory costs again to bring in revenue.
Nintendo is switching it up this time around (see what I did there?) by joining Microsoft and Sony in the realm of paid online services. Playing online will require a subscription to do so starting this fall. They are also handing out games like the competition, however it appears only to be one NES/SNES game a month. Not exactly keeping up with your rivals. Nintendo didn’t give a price for this service, so here’s hoping its lower than the standard $60.
Finally the big one, the games. First things first, region locking is now a thing of the past! Now you can import those hard to get games Europe. Below you will find a list of the games Nintendo showcased. Zelda is a confirmed launch title for the system.
